Western NY Employment Strikeforce

Information for Job Seekers in Lackawanna

In January 2016, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that he would expand the highly successful Unemployment Strikeforce model originally launched in the Bronx in 2014 to include Western New York. The new Western NY Employment Strikeforce is now ready to assist businesses and local job seekers in Buffalo, Lackawanna, and Niagara Falls, helping residents find job opportunities in their communities.

The Department of Labor will work with local training providers, community based organizations and clergy to offer a wide array of employment and supportive services to help area residents find jobs so they are better able to support their families.

Resume Development
Career Center staff will work with customers to develop a skills-based resume that captures their past work experience and improves their chances of getting noticed by hiring managers.

Intensive Job Placement Services
Staff will conduct an assessment to identify strengths and skills or determine if additional training may be needed. They will connect job seekers to current openings in their desired field of work, and advocate on their behalf, as well as pair them with training monies and/or tax credits, to make them more attractive to hiring businesses.

Career Center staff will work with you to evaluate your skills, identify your desired occupation, and develop a strategy to get you into a training program that will help you succeed.
